The long first open portion (, ''petuchah'') spans the first five readings (, ''aliyot''). The second open portion (, ''petuchah'') coincides with the sixth reading (, ''aliyah''). And the third open portion (, ''petuchah'') coincides with the seventh reading (, ''aliyah'').〔See, e.g., ''The Schottenstein Edition Interlinear Chumash: Bereishis/Genesis''.
